Climb for Life Las Vegas Cranks it Up!
Over $10,000 Raised During One-Day Climbing Event

It may be known as Sin City, but on Saturday, February 5th there was nothing but generosity and hard cranking going on at Las Vegas' PowerHouse Climbing Center during the HERA Foundation's third Climb for Life Las Vegas. Nearly 100 climbers from Las Vegas, California and Colorado gathered to see who could rack up the most feet in points and the most dollars in fundraising for the HERA Foundation. Over $10,000 was raised from local sponsors, individual donations and the fundraising efforts of participants during this one-day event.

Saturday evening at Big Dogs Café & Casino, awards were given to the top fundraisers and thousands of dollars in outdoor gear and gifts from local merchants were raffled off. Local climber Alison Bonanno was the top fundraiser with $908.00 in donations, Stephanie Dickinson, who learned to climb specifically for this event, raised $725.00 and long time local climbers Lynn & Tim Hunsinger raised $500.00. Many other climbers submitted funds they raised that ranged from $120 to $350 dollars.

The 2005 Climb for Life Las Vegas kicked off with Land Rover Las Vegas' Learn to Climb Clinic with word class climber Tiffany Campbell of Las Vegas and a guest appearance by former national junior champion, Nancy Russell of Salt Lake City. Several children in the community whose mothers and grandmothers are in the midst of battling ovarian cancer participated as a way to help their families.

During the event women, men and kids off all ages climbed routes with a point value assigned in feet. After this year's event many male climbers in Las Vegas will be opting to train with two of PowerHouse's youngest female climbers who dominated this year's event. 10-year old Mia Gjerde racked up over 18,000 feet in points with 12 year old Lisa Harrison on her coat tails with over 17,000 feet.

The event was an enormous success and at this time climbers in Las Vegas are busy making plans to head to Utah on September 15 - 18th for the 4th Annual Climb for Life Salt Lake City.
